About Patricia

Art has always been my central focus. While living in France, I came to love the work of Degas and Monet. But there have been other important influences, especially that of the Great Masters for studio portraiture. Photography has become for me portraiture informed by art - creating an image that captures the spirit of the individual, yet is a unique work of art.
Many fine teachers have led me to develop my style at schools and seminars through the years, but among them are two who altered the course of my career. The first was nationally revered Jane Connor Sziser who taught me how Photoshop could bring my photography to a new level. She showed me how to gather from numerous images the elements of a truly great portrait. The second was Julie Hughes, recently International Photographer of the Year, who directed me to put all else aside and become a “painter of portraits.”
Capturing the warmth and beauty of children, their families, and dancers of all ages in a setting that enhances this expression is my goal and my joy...

Environment

Patricia does both studio and environmental work. Her outdoor studio includes a lovely pond and dock, as well as flower gardens and a wooded glen. In the studio are a variety of canvases made specifically for her studio and style. There is also a formal set with fireplace and a gently lighted window area.

Props

The loveliest portraits are the simplest, so Patricia makes limited use of props. However, a few things work beautifully. For example, her antique wheelbarrow where kids can cuddle up and a darling cradle for babies add, rather than detract, from the feel of the image.

Style

Patricia will talk with you about the type of portrait you have in mind and will help you refine your ideas to create the image that is just right for your home. Once the feel of the portrait is established, setting and costuming will be decided upon. The making of a painted portrait is a cooperative effort. Your vision combines with Patricia's to create a work of art you will treasure forever. It is a grand adventure, filled with fun and memories that will enhance the pleasure you take every time you view your portrait.

Dancers

As a dancer, Patricia can reach to that ballet spirit in your child and capture the loveliness of dance. The studio is equipped with a barre and tutus of varying sizes appropriate to a painted portrait. If you have a particular costume you would like to use, we can work with that. Many parents have more than one dancer in the family. Here is an opportunity to create a portrait of them together in a unique work of art.

One and one-half hour sitting is $100. Portrait prices start at $24. Portrait packages start at $150. Painted wall portraiture is from $295. Discounts for special plans apply (see Specials). CDs and DVDs are available for purchase.
